I wanna do something big

The Third Line in Dubai presents Islands – Abbas Akhavan’s first solo exhibition in the region. According to The Third Line, Akhavan’s site specific installation visualizes the connections between the art world/art market and the world’s economy. Akhavan positions this global economic theme within Dubai – mapping the city directly onto the gallery walls.

MEAT JOY: Film - 16mm color, sound, 12 minute version edited by Bob Giorgio. 1964

Meat Joy is an erotic rite -- excessive, indulgent, a celebration of flesh as material: raw fish, chickens, sausages, wet paint, transparent plastic, ropes, brushes, paper scrap.

The original performances became notorious and introduced a vision of the sacred erotic in a suppressive time.

thinking about the 60's and finally the freedom to exlpore and be introduced to sex, drugs and rock n' roll, peoples secretive lives are intimately exposed and explored through this installation. This voyeuristic approach leads the viewer into an uncomfortable relationship with the screen, audio and visuals.

I couldn't look away.

Damien Hirst’s wide-ranging practice – installations, sculpture, painting and drawing – has sought to challenge the boundaries between art, science and popular culture. His energy and inventiveness, and his consistently visceral, visually arresting work, has made him a leading artist of his generation. Hirst explores the uncertainty at the core of human experience; love, life, death, loyalty and betrayal through unexpected and unconventional media.
